Lawrence J. “Larry” West, 87, of Vincennes, passed away June 28, 2018 at 7:55 PM at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. Lawrence was born October 16, 1930 in Vincennes the son of Baxter and Janie LaGarde West. He lost his mother in 1933 and his father married Lucille Bonner, whom he thought of as his mother. He was a 1949 graduate of Lincoln High School, he worked at Vincennes Paper Mill for over 25 years as maintenance supervisor, he then managed another Industrial Supply for several years, and then he started and formerly owned and operated West Industrial Supply until his retirement. He married Veronica E. Yochum on October 31, 1953 and they made their life together for over 64 years. He attended St. John Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, the Men’s Club, he served on the Building and Grounds committee at St John and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree member. He was proud of his family and the part he had in the renovation of St. John Church.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica E. West, their children, Lawrence B. West and his wife Patricia of Vincennes, Ann West Sutton, and her husband Dennis of Vincennes, Jeanne West DeWilde, and her husband John of Warsaw, IN, Ruth Ann West Wraley of Indianapolis, IN and Anthony “Tony” West, and his wife Debbie of Vincennes, IN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brett West, Aaron West, Seth West, Chris DeWilde, Rachel Wraley, Regina Wraley, Jacob West, Abby West and his great grandchildren, Raynn DeWilde, Autumn DeWilde Lucy Thacker Petelle, Nora West, Veda West, Brody West, Natalie West and Janet West. His brothers and sisters in law, Lawrence Yochum, and his wife Barb of Henryville, IN, Raymond Yochum, and his wife Shirley of Vincennes, IN, Mary Jeanette Yochum of Vincennes, IN and Carol Yochum of Vincennes, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Randall West and a sister Betty Marie West.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday July 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck, Fr. Donald Ackerman, Deacon Earl Ruppel, Deacon Cletus Yochum and Deacon Don Yochum officiating. Lawrence will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday July 1, 2018 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the Knights of Columbus Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Francis Xavier Parish or to the Good Samaritan Hospice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Lawrence’s family.
