Obituary for Robert Lumbrix
Robert Lumbrix, 81, died Sunday, June 4, at Fox Ridge Manor in Vincennes.
He and his twin sister, Rachel Lumbrix Shelton, were born in Bicknell, Indiana, in the home built by their father Joseph (Jake) Lumbrix and mother Martha Turpin Lumbrix. He married Carol Sue Elkins on November 5, 1954.
He is survived by his son Joseph Lumbrix and his wife Helga of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughter Melinda Hedge and her husband Martin of Vincennes, Indiana; his thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren; along with many close friends who mourn his departure.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Elkins Lumbrix, his daughters Donna Lormand and Dawn Weldy, his twin sister Rachel Shelton, and his older sisters Ruth Fairfield and Mildred Hoover.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a medic operating room technician during the Korean War period. He graduated from Upper Iowa University and Alexander Hamilton Institute of New York. He was the Controller and Personnel Director for the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was a licensed administrator and a former City Judge of Bicknell, Indiana, appointed by Governor Evan Bayh in 1987.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge and was an Exalted Ruler of the Bicknell Elks Lodge. He served as a hospice volunteer for many years. He was an active member of The First Baptist Church in Vincennes, Indiana.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home in Vincennes, Indiana. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 8, at the funeral home, with interment following at the Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Steve Anderson of First Baptist Church will lead the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Heart-to-Heart, a crisis pregnancy center in Vincennes, Indiana, where he had served on the board of directors, or to the National Right to Life.
