Anthony "Tony" Bumgarner, 89, formerly of Vincennes, IN passed away Friday February 23, 2024 in Joliet, IL. Tony was born August 29, 1934 in Vincennes the son of Wayne L. and Mary A. Thomas Bumgarner. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and he received an A.S. Degree form Vincennes University. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He moved to Chicago, IL in the 1960’s to work in the construction industry and became a technical engineer for Plumbers Local 130 United Association. He married Margaret Sucec and they made their life together until her death on December 4, 2018. After retirement, he and his wife would enjoy long trips in their RV to many places including several trips to Alaska.
Tony is survived by his son’s, Mark Bumgarner, and his wife Ellen of Homer Glen, IL and Michael Bumgarner, and his wife Caroline of Montgomery, IN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica (Keith) Barber, Mitchell Bumgarner, Megan Bumgarner and Austin Bumgarner, his great grandchildren, Kamryn, Kaleb, Ben, Hazel, Charlotte and Ellie. A sister, Nancy Knoblett, and her husband Don of Palestine, IL. He will be missed by his many loving Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bumgarner, his parents, Wayne L. and Mary A. Bumgarner, and his sisters, Betty (Roland) Bayne, and Rita (Harold) Nowaskie.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday March 1, 2024 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Fr Tony Ernst officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Military Gravesite Services will be provided by the All Weather Firing Squad. Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to Lightways Hospice Organization, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431. Duesterberg -Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Bumgarner Family during their time of loss.
