Obituary for August “Auggie” Carie Jr.
August “Auggie” Carie Jr., 87, of Vincennes, passed away December 20, 2019 at 12:50 AM at the Villages of Oak Ridge in Washington, IN. Auggie was born January 26, 1932 in Vincennes, the son of August Sr and Mary Louise Mouzin Carie. He was a graduate of Decker High School and he was signed by the N.Y. Yankees to pitch and then he played for the Cleveland Indians. On Oct 27, 1951 he married B. Joyce Tewalt and they made their life together for 63 years until her death in July 13, 2015. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his children, Joyce L. Holt and her husband Dennis of Vincennes, Douglas R. Carie, of Vincennes and Rick J. Carie, and his wife Bonnie of Vincennes. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, his brothers, Harold Carie of Vincennes, IN, Lawrence “Windy” Carie of Effingham, IL and a sister, Mary Lou Snider of Vincennes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Carie, his parents, his brothers, Bernard Carie, Raphael Carie, Francis “Bud” Carie, Orville Carie, Louis Carie, Donnie Carie and Richard Carie in infancy.
A Mass to celebrate his life will be conducted on Monday December 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial Contributions can be made in his memory to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry or St. Jude Children Hospital.
