Obituary for Barbara Jean Murphy
Barbara Jean Murphy, 84, formerly of Vincennes passed away January 9, 2019 in Evansville, IN at the home of her son. Barbara was born August 30, 1934 In Vincennes the daughter of George J. and Christy P. Danes Wetzel. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and worked as a home health aid. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, K of C Auxiliary, St Anne Altar Society, and she was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella, where she had served as a Regent. She married Eugene F. Murphy, and they made their life together until his death in 1988.
Barbara is survived by her children, James D. Murphy, and his wife Julia of Bruceton Mills, WVA, Mary Jo Peters of Greybull, WY, Debra Murphy Luera, and her husband Leopoldo, of Laredo, TX, Mark Murphy, and his wife Heidi of Evansville, IN, Denoma “Dee Dee” Martin, and her husband Thomas of Laredo, TX and John Murphy, and his wife Lynn of Thermopolis, WY. 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, George Wetzel and his wife Janice of Vincennes, IN.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, a daughter, Patricia Armstrong, a son in infancy, Eugene F. Murphy Jr, a granddaughter Brittney Murphy, a brother, Joe Wetzel and two sisters, Joan Jewell and Murle Waldrop.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Saturday January 12, 2019 from 12:00 Pm to 2:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with a service to be held at 2:00 PM with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. Burial will be held privately. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier Parish in her memory.
