Obituary for Betty Ann Thuis
Betty Ann Thuis, 91, a lifelong resident of Bicknell, passed away at her residence with her family at her bedside. Betty was born October 1, 1928 in Bicknell the daughter of Leo and Jennie Hester Strain O’Dell. She was a graduate of Bicknell High School and on November 2, 1946 she married Robert E. Thuis and they made their life together for nearly 41 years until his death on August 30, 1987. Betty retired after over 20 years with Stemming Jewelers in Bicknell and formerly worked at Crane. She was an active member of the North Knox Social Ministries, Delta Theta Tau, former Brownie leader, lifelong member of the Bicknell First Baptist Church, she formerly served for over 30 years as Secretary/Sexton of the Edwardsport IOOF Cemetery and was voted Bicknell’s Woman of the Year. She was always looking forward to any activity her children, grandchildren and any child she may have known was involved in. Her home had an open door policy for any child in need. She had many nieces that she took care of and tried to help raise.
She is survived by her children, Robert L. Thuis, and his wife Melody of Linton, IN, Sandra L. Yenne, and her husband Bill of Bicknell, IN and Judy A. Badger, and her husband Scott of Vincennes, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacy Thuis, Brock Thuis, Damon Yenne, Heather Pahmeier, Michael Stangle and Julie Toothman and her great grandchildren, Taylor Thuis, Aliyah Thuis, Taryn Thuis, Hailey Pahmeier, Levi Pahmeier, Braxton Yenne, Caroline Yenne, Leo Stangle, Annlee Stangle, Vaida Toothman and Anders Toothman.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Thuis, her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday June 30, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell with Pastor John Moreland officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Edwardsport IOOF Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Knox County Humane Society or the North Knox Social Ministries. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Thuis family during their time of loss.
