Obituary for Betty J. Halter
Betty J. Halter, 92, of Vincennes, passed away Thursday March 2, 2023 at Gentlecare Nursing Center with her family at her bedside. Betty was born November 1, 1930 in Vincennes the daughter of Richard E. and Charlotte Brown Alton. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and worked for the Vincennes Community School Corporation. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church/St. Vincent Parish, K of C Auxiliary, lifetime member of VFW Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the St. Vincent Altar Society. She married Charles Halter on May 1, 1954 and they made their life together until his death in 1985.
Betty is survived by her children, Daniel Halter, and his wife Paula of Washington, IN, Major Dodie Halter USAF Ret. of Vincennes, IN, Charlotte Kamp, and her husband Robert of Vincennes, IN, Charles Halter and his fiance` Andrea Perry of Bruceville, IN, Richard Halter, and his wife Amie of Vincennes, IN and Matthew Halter, and his wife Tammy of Vincennes, IN. She is also survived by a 2 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 10 great grandchildren and one on the way. 2 sisters in law, Norma Halter and Shirley Alton also survive.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, John and Charles Alton, 5 sisters, Jane Klacking, Marjorie Shots, Ann Houck, Rita Taylor and Mary Dile. A daughter-in-law Diane Halter also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent Catholic Parish with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Charley Halter in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday March 6, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier Altar Society in her memory. The family would like to thank Patricia Ochs and the staff at Gentlecare nursing center for the wonderful care they gave Betty. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Halter family during their time of loss.
