Obituary for Betty L. Heinz

Betty L. Heinz, 92, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 5:00 PM at her home with her family gathered at her bedside. Betty was born March 3, 1931 in Knox County the daughter of John G. and Agnes (Thomas) Keller. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and Vincennes Business College and began a career in business accounting. She married Herman A. Heinz on September 27, 1952, and they made their life together for over 62 years until his death on February 17, 2015. Betty was secretary and bookkeeper for H.G. Heinz Inc. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church/St Francis Xavier, Altar Society, a former 4-H Leader for 25 years, was active in the Knox County Extension Town and County Homemakers Club and the Illiana Saddle Club. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.


She is survived by her family, children, Lucinda Heinz, of Vincennes, Herman A. “Tony” Heinz Jr., and his wife Lynnette of Vincennes, Michael Heinz, and his wife Donna of Jasper, Rose Heinz Tackett of Vincennes, Mark Heinz, and his wife Paula of Vincennes, Daniel Heinz, and his wife Vivian of Evansville, Kathy Garner, and her husband Dale of Vincennes and Patrick Heinz, and his wife Gina of Bridgeport, IL. Her beloved grandchildren, Derek (Sarah) Heinz, Vanessa (Sam) Culver, Erik (Megan) Heinz, Nathan Heinz, Joshua (Bridget) Heinz, Kristin Heinz, Craig (Katie) Heinz, Nicholas (Gabby) Heinz, Melanie Heinz, Kristy (Daniel) Mayer, Chelsey (Bryan) Williams, Christian Heinz, Justin (Shelly) Garner, Caleb (Danielle) Garner, Jordan (Bobbie) Garner, Amber Fowler, Ashley Heinz and Justin Heinz. Her great grandchildren, Caleb Heinz, Josie Heinz, Kaylie Mayer, Ethan Mayer, Layla Mayer, Jacob Garner, Max Garner, Baylee Garner, Ryan Garner, Coleman Garner, Kenna Garner, Draven Garner, Jarrod Devine, Lane Garner, Hensley Mayer, Jeffery Heinz, Alexander Heinz, Matthew Heinz, Abigail Heinz, Joanna Heinz, McKenzie Heinz, Adlee Heinz, Barrett Heinz, Aubrey Heinz, Genieve Heinz and Ace Garner. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, John (Kitty) Keller of Vincennes, Walter (Jackie) Keller of Lexington, KY, Matt (Rita) Keller of Vincennes, Gloria Townsley of Vincennes and Mary Ann Canada of Evansville, IN.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. Heinz, 2 great grandchildren, Grace Heinz and Memphis Riker, her parents, a brother and sister in law, Raymond and Patricia Keller, a sister and brother in law, Pauline and Delbert Patterson, a sister in infancy, Rita Keller, brothers in law, William Townsley and Jack Canada.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating, She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Herman Heinz in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the St. John Catholic Church Building Fund. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Betty's family during their time of loss.
