Obituary for Burl C. Purcell Burl C. Purcell, 77, of Bicknell, IN passed away Wednesday evening at his residence at 6:24 PM. He was born June 24, 1938 in Bicknell the son of Guy Burl and Ruth M. Powers Purcell. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and upon his return he began his career in Gary, IN as a millwright working for U.S. Steel. After his retirement, he returned to Bicknell and began working for the Bicknell Water Department. He was awarded the Key to the City of Bicknell and held memberships in the First Baptist Church, American Legion, VFW, and loved to go fishing, hunting, traveling and dining out. On January 10, 1981 he married Linda J. Stein and she preceded him in death. He always aspired to travel to Ireland where his family came from. He is survived by his children, Kathy Conn of Valparaiso, IN, Betty Hoopingarner of Rochester, IN, Steve Purcell of Portage, IN, Nancy Harris of Vincennes, IN, Brian Purcell of Vincennes, IN, a step daughter, Jill Woodburn of Bicknell, IN. Ten Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Donham of Bruceville, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother Jerry Purcell. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday November 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel, Bicknell, IN with Rev. Seth Alexander officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Asbury Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Saturday November 7, 2015 at the funeral home . Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the donor�s charity of choice.
