Obituary for Charles L. Bentrud Charles L. Bentrud, 83, of Edwardsport, IN passed away Sunday November 27, 2011 at his residence with his family at his bedside. He was born August 14, 1928 in Glenwood, Minnesota, the son of Henry & Clara Plowman Bentrud. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. He continued to serve in the Navy and retired after over 20 years. He returned to the Edwardsport area and began his civil service with the U. S. Post Office in Freelandville, as Postmaster and then for the Sandborn Post Office as Postmaster until his retirement. He was a disabled veteran and a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He married Marilyn Jackman on August 6, 1955 and they made their life together for 50 years until her death in 2005. He is survived by a son, Charles L. (Chuck) Bentrud II of Edwardsport, IN, a daughter, Melissa Slaughter, and her husband, John of Mitchell, IN his former daughter in law, Larrie Anne Catt, and her husband Wayne of Washington, IN, his beloved grandchildren, Rocky Patrick and his wife Colleen, Roxie Barnes and her husband Jeremy, Brittany Peach and her husband Mark, Dakota Bentrud, McKenna Bentrud, Spencer Bentrud and Braxton Catt. His great grandchildren, Layne Barnes, Keaton Barnes, Corben �Boo� Peach and Kyndal Peach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral Services will be celebrated Friday December 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Edwardsport Town Cemetery with gravesite military honors conducted by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 PM Thursday December 1, 2011 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Riley Children�s Hospital for hearing impairments. Online condolences can be made at duesterbergfredrick.com
