Obituary for Darrel L. Kiefner
Darrel L. Kiefner, 69, of Vincennes, passed away Saturday February 3, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by family. Darrel was born July 12, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN the son of Vernon “Bud” and Geneva Hiam Kiefner. He was a 1966 graduate of Barr Reeve High School and he attended Vincennes University and Indiana State University. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army having attained the rank of E-4. He married Gloria Shappard on Oct 9, 1971 and they made their life together for nearly 47 years. Darrel was a Union Millwright for over 35 years and he owned the Australian Connection Emu Ranch. He held memberships in the Gold Wing Riders Assn., he served as Chapter Director of IN-M White River Wings of the Gold Wing Road Riders, the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed rides with the G.W.R.R.A. friends, going on cruises with Gloria at various ports of call, playing euchre with family and model trains
Darrel is survived by his wife, Gloria Kiefner, his brother, Dennis Kiefner, and his wife Nancy of St. Charles, MO, his sister Darlene Kiefner of Newport, IN. He is survived by his sisters and brothers in law, Carol Sievers, and her husband Randy of Newburgh, IN, Susan Mutin, and her husband John of Cordova, TN, Francis Shappard, and his wife Julie of Roswell, GA, Beth O’Dell, and her husband Tim of Vincennes and Mike Shappard, and his wife Ann of Jasper, IN. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews and his two faithful dogs, Bashful and Ingrid.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday February 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends Thursday February 8, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Welch Diabetes Center at the Good Samaritan Foundation.
