Obituary for Dixie Kay Brunson
Dixie Kay Brunson, 81, of Vincennes, passed away Saturday June 5, 2021 at 4:10 AM at the Willow Manor Nursing Center. Dixie was born January 22, 1940 in Plainville, IN the daughter of Niles Leon and Zella Evelyn Boyd Dougherty. She was a 1958 graduate of Plainville High School and proceeded with her education having received her degree in nursing as part of the first graduating class of nursing from Vincennes University. She worked for over 26 years as an R.N. at the Good Samaritan Hospital and 10 years at Crestview/Willow Manor Nursing Centers. She married Paul C. Brunson on June 11, 1960 and they made their life together for 54 years until his death on Oct 2, 2014. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in various civic activities. She was an avid basketball fan and supporter of the Rivet Girls Basketball Program. She enjoyed being with her family no matter where it was. She supported her husband Paul during his years of coaching basketball. She enjoyed camping with her family and shopping, shopping, shopping.
Dixie is survived by her children, Dennis Brunson and his wife Melody of Washington, Paula Westfall and her husband Mitch of Vincennes, Robin Adair, of Seymour, IN, and Julie Webster and her husband Mark of Sumner, IL, her grandchildren, Madison Brunson, Mariah Brunson, Christopher Westfall and his wife Kara, Katie Westfall Dewig and her husband Joe, Natalie Green and her husband Ryan, Shelby Dawson, and her husband Ben and Justin Tedrow, and his wife Savannah. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Brunson, a granddaughter, Amber Tedrow, her parents and two sisters, Janet Eaton and Donna Parker.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 9, 2021 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Plainville Cemetery in Plainville, IN. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Center or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
