Obituary for Donald Gene Byrer
Donald Gene Byrer 76 of Bicknell IN, Journeyed home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. peacefully at his home with his beloved wife Karen by his side. He was born December 7, 1937 in Odon, IN the son of Clarence and Bradie Mae Reynolds Byrer. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who loved to spend time with family and friends. He was a devoted Christian and long time member of the First Christian Church of Bicknell. He formerly worked at Inland Steel where he served as union steward. An entrepreneur, he owned and operated D & B Care Center nearly 20 years and currently was the owner and operator of D & B Rentals along with his wife. Don loved to fish, was an avid gardener, and automobile enthusiast and formerly owned his own landscaping business.. He and is wife Karen enjoyed spending their winters at their second home in Florida where they had many wonderful friends. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Karen Yates Byrer, children, Donna Kay Detty, and her husband Tracey of Bicknell, Debra Ann McGillem, and her husband Joe of Montgomery, IN, James A. Byrer of Crawfordsville, IN, Penney Jean Koenig, and her husband Eric of Bicknell and Todd W. Allen, and his wife Amy of Vincennes, IN. His beloved grandchildren, Chad Gray, Lance Detty, Logan Detty, Blake McGillem, Whitney McGillem, Jennifer Byrer, Ashley Koenig, Madison Koenig, Taylor Hambrick and Emily Dawn Ann Allen. A great grandchild, Brealynn Nichole Hatfield also survives. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and great neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Winegar Byrer, parents, 2 brothers. Dwight Byrer and Virgil Byrer and a sister, Vonda Mae Chadd. Funeral Services will be celebrated Tuesday October 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel with Ron Barnes and Pastor Gene Rasner officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, IN with gravesite military honors presented by the Odon VFW & American Legion. The family will receive friends Monday October 20, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and prior to the services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the First Christian Church of Bicknell or the ALS Foundation.
