Obituary for Donovan W. Schroyer Sr.
Obituary for Donovan W. �Don� Schroyer Sr. Donovan W. �Don� Schroyer, 89, of Vincennes passed away March 6, 2015 at 8:12 PM at the Gentle Care Nursing Center. Don was born October 13, 1925 in St. Francisville, IL the son of Alonzo and Clara Mitchell Schroyer. He was a lifelong resident of Vincennes and a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School. During his senior year he went to serve in the armed forces during W.W. II in the U.S. Army having served in the 110th General Hospital stationed in England. He was a graduate of the Indiana Business College and on May 26, 1944 he married Mary C. Mominee and they made their life together for over 46 years until her death on Jan 8, 1991. He worked at various jobs throughout his life, including as a professional photographer and salesman. He was once one of the top Fuller Brush salesman in the nation before working for the Indiana State Highway Dept for nearly 20 years before his retirement. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, a hard worker who still found time to volunteer in many capacities. He taught Sunday School and coached Cub League and Boys League Baseball for many years. He was also the last coach of the Old Cathedral Raiders basketball team. He held membership in various organizations including the American Legion, Clark Volunteers, the Indiana Retired Employees Assn, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2244 in Lawrenceville, IL the 40 et 8, Moose and Eagles. He enjoyed many activities, fishing, traveling, gardening, family get togethers, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid high school sporting enthusiast, watching sports on television and watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed playing poker and is still remembered as being one of the best poker players in the area. He is survived by his children, Donovan Schroyer Jr of Evansville, IN, David Schroyer of San Antonio, TX, William Keith Schroyer of Vincennes, IN and Beverly Ebaugh, and her husband Bradley of Sioux City, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Audrey Johnson, Alicia Ebaugh, Timothy Schroyer, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Schroyer, his parents, a son Mark Anthony Schroyer, a daughter, Patricia Lynn Schroyer, a sister, Ruth Frey, his brothers, Roy Lee and Lee Roy Schroyer and a half sister Fan McKie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military gravesite honors provided by the VFW Post 2244 Firing Squad. The family will receive friends Monday March 9, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home.
