Obituary for Doris J. Nowaskie


Doris J. (Mouzin) Nowaskie, 81, of Vincennes, IN, passed away Wednesday June 21, 2023 at Gentlecare Health with her family at her bedside. Doris was born November 24, 1941 in Knox County the daughter of Julius Sr. and Elizabeth Carie Mouzin. She was a graduate of Decker High School where she met her future husband, John Nowaskie, as a member of the Beta Club. She was a former basketball queen, an active member of the St. Vincent/St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Knox County Homemakers, 4-H Council, 4-H Queen Committee, Illiana Watermelon Assn., K of C Auxiliary and she loved going to the casino. Doris formerly worked at Hoosier Supply and Organ‘s Greenhouse, was an accomplished seamstress for her family, a dedicated farm wife, homemaker, and her family will be lost without her guidance. She was a gracious caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.


Doris is survived by her husband of 61 years, John T. Nowaskie, their children, Brenda Coffman, Suzanne Snider, and her husband John, John F. Nowaskie, and his wife Melinda and Kristy Cardinal all of Vincennes, IN. Grandchildren, Elizabeth & Quentin, William & Brie, Christopher, Sally & Robert, Emily & Mitchell, William and Jonathan. 8 great grandchildren, a brother, Paul Mouzin, and his wife Amelia of Vincennes, IN, Sisters in Law, Jean Nowaskie and Judy Osborne.


She was preceded in death by her son in law, William J. “Bobe” Coffman, her parents, Julius Sr. and Elizabeth Mouzin, a brother and sister in law, Julius Jr. and Norma Mouzin, sister’s, Bette Ann Jones and Marcella B. Dreiman and her husband Bernard “Bernie” Dreiman. Her mother and father in law, Johnny and Pauline Nowaskie, brother’s in law, Robert “Bobbie” Nowaskie and Don Osborne.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday June 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest in the St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday June 26, 2023 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent Catholic Church to help with maintenance of the church. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Nowaskie family during their time of loss
