Obituary for Duane Barney Litherland
Obituary for Duane �Barney� Litherland Duane �Barney� Litherland, 78, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday September 19, 2012 at his residence unexpectedly. He was born June 28, 1934 in Vincennes the son of Clarence �Mack� & Audrey Redfern Litherland. He was a 1952 graduate of Lincoln High School, he married Mary Ann Chambers on January 15, 1953, and they made their life together for nearly 60 years. Barney joined the Vincennes Police Department and served the Vincennes community for over 22 years until his retirement. He owned Barney�s Bail Bonds and Litherland Bait Shop and was a lifetime member of the Vincennes Fraternal Order of Police. He formerly held memberships in the Eagles and the Vincennes Boat Club. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, running his trout lines, net fishing, musselling, hunting and mushrooming. His neighborhood depended on his skills to protect them and their property as the neighborhood patrolman. He loved to sit in his yard swing, and talk to anyone who stopped. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Ann Litherland, their children, Tom Litherland, and his wife Jan of Vincennes, Steve Litherland, and his wife Kathy of Monroe City, Dale Ann Son, and her husband Mark of Vincennes, Jody Cardinal, and her husband Ed of Bruceville and Lisa Bezy of Vincennes. His grandchildren, Laura Francis, Brandi Litherland, Steven Litherland Jr, Audra Litherland, Maria Litherland, Kooter Litherland, Jennifer Elkins, Philip Chanley Jr, Michael Son, Matthew Son, Jaime Greer, Derek Cardinal, Brant Cardinal, Angie Phillips, Brad Toth, Matthew Bezy and Braden Bezy, also survive him. 19 Great Grandchildren, his brothers, Larry D. Litherland, and his wife Ella, Jim Litherland both of Vincennes, a sister in law, Claudia Litherland of Vincennes and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Bethany D. Litherland, 2 brothers, Bill Litherland and Darrell Litherland. Services to celebrate Barney�s life will be conducted Monday September 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Harold Hensley and Howard Hatcher. He will be laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery with honors from the Vincennes Police Dept & FOP. The family will receive friends Sunday September 23, from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Fraternal Order of Police.
