Obituary for Earl Martin Earl Martin, 93, the oldest lifetime town resident, passed from this world into eternal life with his heavenly father, on Friday February 27, 2015 at his home with his family nearby. Earl was born August 6, 1921 in Edwardsport to his parents Stanley �Mack� and Laura Mae Franklin Martin. On August 12, 1939 he married Violet Berryman who survives and they made their life together for over 75 years. In his early adult life, he worked at the Crane Naval Center. Some years later he worked at the #1 Coal Mine, and then he drove a semi for Gib Kirchoff hauling coal to the Edwardsport power plant. When that job closed, he worked at the Reynolds, Stubnitz Spring Co where he was the night shift superintendent. After that he worked at the AMAX coal mine in Keensburg, IL until his retirement in August 1983. He was an active member of the Edwardsport United Methodist Church for over 75 years, where he was a lay leader, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Earl put Christ and his family at the forefront of his life. He loved to camp, fish, bicycle, run, take walks and travel. He leaves behind a large Christian Family, who will dearly miss him, but who will also celebrate his new life in Heaven. Surviving are his wife Violet Martin, daughter, Judy Gilmore, son, Earl Martin Jr, and his wife Jill, and his son in law, Max Haney all of Edwardsport. His Grandchildren, Melony Gilmore, Donna Hastings, and her husband Mike, Lori Buskirk, and her husband Jeff, Donald R. Gilmore Jr, and his wife Sherry, Max (Will) Haney, and his wife, Diane, Melissa Graper, and her husband Jim, Cindy Martin Shake, Natalie Basinger, and her husband Scott, and Dawn Gluth. His Great Grandchildren, Aubrey Bilskie, and her husband Cort, Ben Buskirk, Donald R. Gilmore III and his wife Britney, Tyler Gilmore, and his wife Jayda, Jadon Graper, Janay Graper, John and Hunter Gregg, Cody Lafferty, Julia Basinger, Emma Bassinger, Abby Basinger, Mason Gluth, Thomas Gluth, Alyssa Gluth, Payton Haney, and his wife Cristy, Paige Sumner, and her husband Nick. His Great-Great Grandchildren, Willow Bilskie, Boone Bilskie, Gibson Gilmore, Noah Graper and Khale Sumner. Also surviving is his best lifetime friend, John J. Stoelting, his church family and all of his Special Guardian Angles. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Haney, parents, two brothers, Stanley and Richard Martin, grandson, Todd Martin Haney and his son in law, Donald R. Gilmore Sr. Services in honor of his life will be conducted Sunday March 1, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Funeral Home. Pastor Josh Sanders will officiate and he will be laid to rest in the Edwardsport Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Edwardsport United Methodist Church.
