Obituary for Edith M. “Powers” Wilson
Edith M. “Powers” Wilson, 99 years young, passed away Wednesday November 15, 2017 at 6:05 PM at the Willow Manor Nursing Center. Edith was born September 9, 1918 in Vincennes the daughter of James E. and Myrtle A Stiles Powers. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and she married Russell Wilson on March 3, 1936 and they made their life together for nearly 58 years until his death in 1994. Edith formerly worked at AutoLite, the Paper Mill, was manager of the Fabric Shop and Willow Manor. She loved to go fishing with Russell. She was an avid angler having being acknowledged as the first woman to hold various record fish she caught. Fishing in Indiana, Illinois, Florida and anywhere there was water she always caught the limit. She and Russell built an airboat and she would be the driver taking control where the fish were. Edith was a member of Rising Sun Christian Church in Lawrenceville, IL and formerly a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Edith is survived by her daughters, Sarah J. Wirth, and her husband Kenneth of Washington, IN, Virginia A. Biggs, and her husband Norman of Virginia Beach, VA, Carol M. Pinkstaff of Vincennes, IN and Rebecca A. Bates, and her husband Lloyd of Shell Knob, MO. She was grandmother to 16, great grandmother to 66 and great-great grandmother to 6.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Russell, her son’s, Wayne L. Wilson, and four in infancy. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be celebrated Tuesday November 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Pastor Garth Whewell officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the donor’s charity of choice.
