Obituary for Edmond Lester DeLisle
Edmond L. DeLisle, 85, of Vincennes passed December 31, 2020 at 2:35 AM at Eastgate Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Washington, IN. Ed was born February 6, 1935 in Alton, IL the son of Lester Edmond and Helen Recker DeLisle. He was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He retired from the Packaging Corporation of America and Del Farm. He was a devout member of the Old Cathedral Catholic Church where he served in the choir as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a founding member of the Old Northwest Territory Running Club. He loved EVERY sport, but his favorites included the IU Hoosiers, Notre Dame football, Larry Bird, and Peyton Manning’s Colts and Broncos. Ed never met a stranger. He loved music and playing golf and Euchre with his family. Ed got an early start running in the New Year but this time the pathway was to heaven instead of Gregg Park with his fellow runners. One of his earliest memories is running barefoot as a toddler down the driveway to greet his father returning home from work. He participated in the Boston Marathon twice, Chicago Marathon, Houston Marathon and Savannah Marathon where he set his personal best time. He also participated in numerous half marathons, triathlons, and cycling events. He also represented his work’s national team in corporate track meets nationally in TX and CA. But he will always be remembered as a great 10K runner where he was the best in the state in his age group, and at one time third in the U.S. in his age group. His wife, Mary, never cared about the trophies he brought home as long as he won the coveted IU Basketball prime-seat tickets; but there was always a trophy for each event!
Ed married Mary Lee Madison on June 21, 1957 and they made their life together for nearly 60 years before she passed on May 28, 2017. During their first two years of marriage Ed was in the Army and they were stationed in Germany where their oldest child was born. Anyone who knew Ed would understand why he spent a lot of time peeling potatoes in the service until his wife joined him in Germany. A prime example was bucking orders to help his wife and child board the airplane back to the States, but after seeing Ed do this for his family, the other service members did the same.

Ed is survived by his children, Lisa DeLisle Dobbs and her husband Steve of Edmond, OK, Donna Blackburn of Peru, IN, sons, Edmond DeLisle Jr of Vincennes and Mark DeLisle, and his wife Brenda of Vincennes. Grandchildren, Sara Powell, Bryan Dobbs, Will Blackburn, Ben Blackburn and Danielle Blackburn. Great Grandchildren, Ty Hoppe, Brooklyn Powell, Tel Gilbert, Bane Gilbert, Tristan Waxman, Lucas Blackburn, Lincoln Blackburn and Charles Blackburn. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence DeLisle, and his wife Jerry of Vincennes, IN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Madison, his parents Lester DeLisle and Helen Shouse, his step-father, Robert E Shouse, his sister, Linda Vogel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday January 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Old Cathedral Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Thomas officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 AM Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Old Cathedral Catholic Church. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Edmond L DeLisle. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Vincennes Pet Port.
