Obituary for Elizabeth “Betty” Haney
Elizabeth Betty Haney, 74, of Bicknell died at 8am on Saturday November 17th, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Betty was born November 29, 1943 in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Domin) Stanczak. She was a 1962 graduate of Bicknell High School. She worked as a cook and matron for Bicknell Head Start; a cook and housekeeping and laundry supervisor for Moore’s Nursing Home and Bicknell Health Care; and a cook and supervisor at a pub she and her husband owned in Bicknell. After retiring, she cleaned homes for several friends in Bicknell and Vincennes. She was involved in the Bicknell VFW for years. She walked her dog “Pugsy” several times a day on Main Street in downtown Bicknell. She also took care of any cat in her area, feeding and sheltering them during the winter months. She hosted nearly every family get-together during the holidays and was at her happiest when her house was packed full of family.
Betty married Dempson Jerry Haney on September 15, 1962 and they made their life together for 56 years. She is also survived by two children, Genevive Evans and her husband Bob of Bicknell and Dempson Jerry Haney Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Oaktown. six grandchildren, Carrie Cates and husband Kyle of Austin, TX; Dempson Jerry (DJ) Haney III and wife Amy of Harristown, IL; Benjamin Evans and wife Brooke of Bicknell; Tyler Haney and wife Sarah of Oaktown; Elizabeth Evans of Terre Haute; and Brayton Haney of Vincennes. four great grandchildren, Lily Haney, Dempson Haney IV, Audra Evans and Gretchen Haney. She is also survived by four siblings, Stephanie Jones and husband Bob, of Litchfield, IL; Patty Thompson and husband John, of Oaktown; Cathy Jones and husband Larry, of Gainesboro, TN; and David Stanczak and wife Betty of Vincennes, 25 nieces and nephews, and more than 24 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and four sisters, including Josephine Pahmeier, formerly of Westphalia.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon to 2pm at Duesterberg Fredrick Wampler Chapel in Bicknell, with the funeral immediately following the visitation at. 2:00 PM. Rev. Bryan Taylor will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Humane Society. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the family.
