Obituary for Elizabeth Betty Pea
Obituary for Elizabeth (Betty) Pea Elizabeth (Betty) Siewers Pea, Vincennes, Indiana passed away and met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 6:42 P.M. at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Betty was born on October 19, 1917, in Knox County, Indiana, the daughter of Leo and Blanche Lane Siewers. In 1943, she married William Thourot, who passed away while serving in the US Navy in 1944. Later in 1945, she married Arnold E. Pea and they made their life together for more than 44 years until his death in 1998. Betty graduated in 1935 from Decker High School as valedictorian of her class. In 1939, she graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at St. Vincent�s Orphanage here in Vincennes. When she and her husband, Arnold, started their family she took a 25 year leave from nursing to be a full-time mother and homemaker. She loved to sew and, during this period, she sewed for various high schools, weddings and alterations. After raising her family, she returned to her nursing career in geriatrics at Crestview and Willow Manor Nursing homes retiring in June, 1983. Betty was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Ladies Auxiliary. After retiring, Betty remained active with the American Red Cross, Generations, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, receiving numerous awards for her hours of volunteerism. She is survived by her sons: Richard and his wife (Pat) of Lutz, FL; William and his wife (Debbie) of Eden Prairie, MN; Daniel and his wife (Rhea) of Indianapolis, IN; Dexter and his wife (Marilyn) of Vincennes, IN; and John of Meridian, Idaho. She has 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo and Robert Siewers; sister, Dorothy Nowaskie; and half-sisters, Alice Wheatley and Cora Bilskie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Vincennes on Monday, February 20th, at 10:00 A.M. with Father David Martin officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19th, from 4:00-8:00 P.M.
