Obituary for Fred E. Garner
Fred E. Garner, 72, of Vincennes, IN passed away Friday morning at the Eastgate Manor Health Care Center in Washington, IN. Fred was born September 8, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN the son of Ernest E. Garner and Betty J. Fields Bonhomme. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the First Calvary Division. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural Engineering and worked until his retirement in the engineering field. Fred held member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, 40 et 8, and the Moose. He was raised by Lester R. Bonhomme whom he admired as his father.
Fred is survived by his children, Rene L. Mathies of Lawrenceville, IL, Mark S. Garner of Lawrenceville, IL and Scott E. Garner of Vincennes, IN. His grandchildren, Ashley Blocher, Geri Blocher, Zackary Garner and Ryan Garner. His is also survived by his sisters, Nancy D. McRae, and her husband Mike of Manchester, TN and Vickie L. Reinhart, and her husband Jerome of Vincennes, IN.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty J. Bonhomme on January 23, 2019, and his father, Lester R. Bonhomme.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be conducted Tuesday February 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military gravesite honors will be conducted by the All Weather Firing Squad. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s charity of choice. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Duesterberg-Fredrick is honored to assist the Garner family during their time of loss.
