Obituary for Gloria A. "Shappard" Kiefner
Gloria A. "Shappard" Kiefner, 75, of Vincennes entered eternal rest on Thursday evening at Bridgepointe Assisted Living with her family and parish priests at her bedside. Gloria was born December 9, 1948 in Vincennes the first of seven children of Walter and Rita Lane Shappard. At an early age, she began her musical path, which became a lifelong commitment of assisting with the liturgy of music for funerals, weddings and any activities, which she could help with adding her talents to enhance the occasion. Gloria was a 1966 graduate of St. Rose Academy, Vincennes University and Indiana State University. She married Darrel Kiefner on October 9, 1971 and they made their life together nearly 47 years. She retired as administrative assistant at Knox County Purdue Extension Office, helping with the 4-H Livestock Auctions, Ag Day Committee and served as treasurer for the organizations. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and St. John Catholic Church. She served many years as the coordinator of Music Liturgy for the church. She also was the coordinator for the Adoration Chapel and was a member of the Altar Society. In 1993 she was awarded the Simon Brute Society Medal for her many years of service to the parish. Gloria and Darrel were members of the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club and she was a diehard I U Basketball and St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Gloria will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters, Carol (Randy) Sievers of Newburgh, IN, Susan (John) Mutin of Cordova, TN, Francis (Julie) Shappard of Roswell, GA, Beth (Tim) O’Dell of Vincennes, IN and Michael (Ann) Shappard of Jasper, IN. She is also survived by her Brother and Sister in Law, Dennis Kiefner of St. Charles, MO and Darlene Kiefner of Port St. Lucie, FL. Gloria will be fondly remember by her nieces and nephews, Andy (Brandy) Sievers, J.W. Mutin, Hannah (Anthony) Calderone, Ben Shappard, Emma Shappard, Luke Shappard and Sam Shappard, Shawn Kiefner, Shelly Kiefner, Scott Kiefner, Whitney Arvin, Wyatt Arvin and her Great Nephew, Deacon Sievers.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Kiefner, her parents, Walter and Rita, a brother, Paul and a sister in law, Nancy Kiefner
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday August 17, 2024 at St. John Church, 803 Main Street with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Darrel in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home, 521 Vigo St. from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Francis Xavier Parish or Breast Cancer Charity of the donor’s choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Gloria and her family during their time of loss.
