Obituary for Harold Eugene Phillips
Harold Eugene Phillips, 83 years old, of Wheatland, Indiana was called home on July 7, 2018 with his son Brian by his side. Harold was born to Reid and Iva Phillips of Raglesville, Indiana on February 6, 1935. He attended Raglesville School and Odon High School. He served in the United States Army during the Post World War II occupation of Germany. He moved to Wheatland, Indiana in 1964 and has resided there since. Harold was well-known throughout the community and deemed himself the “Mayor of Wheatland.” Harold was a retired UAW welder from Johnson Controls as well has running his own welding business, Phillips Welding in Wheatland, Indiana. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Euchre player. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling the streets of Wheatland on his golf cart making sure “his town” was doing well.
He is survived by his only child, Brian (Lori) Phillips of Vincennes, Indiana, grandchildren: Lukas Hill, Katie Pesch, and Kristen Phillips, 2 great-grandchildren, his loving sister, C. Sue Allen (Jim) of Washington, Indiana, great-nephew, Reid Neff, that he was particularity fond of, and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Stuffle and Mary Jane Terrell, one half-sister: Anna Rachel Phillips, and five brothers: Alva Phillips, Henry Phillips, Lemual Phillips, Bill Chestnut, and Erimal Edwards.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Surgarland Memorial Gardens, 4334 N. State Road 57, Washington, IN 47501. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Military gravesite honors will be performed by the American Legion/VFW Honor Gaurd. There will be a dinner immediately following the services at the United Methodist Church in Odon, IN for anyone that would like to attend.
