Obituary for Harold J. Carie


Harold J. Carie, 94, passed away Saturday April 27, 2024 at Eastgate Nursing Center in Washington, IN. Harold was born September 14, 1929 in Vincennes the son of August C. Sr. and Mary Louise Mouzin Carie. He was a graduate of Decker High School where he met his high school sweetheart Beulah M. Cain who he married on Nov 20, 1948 and made their life together for nearly 56 years. He retired from Prestolite Battery after 45 years where he worked in human resources in the payroll department. Harold was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, coached basketball, an active coach in Cub League Baseball, for over 25 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Men’s Club and active in various activities at Sacred Heart Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather.


Harold is survived by his children, Virginia (Bob) Carrel of Vincennes, David (Sharon) Carie of Washington, IN, Jeff (Laura) Carie of Vincennes, IN and Scott (Tina) Carie of Brookville, IN. His beloved grandchildren, Ethan Carrel, McKenzie Skirvin, Joshua Carie, Jamie Glass, Jill Bieberich, Joel Carie, Jodie Neukam, Jacie Graber, Nicholas Carie, Molly Carie and Jonathan Greene. He is also survived by a brother Lawrence “Windy” Carie of Teutopolis, IL and a sister, Mary Lou Snider of Vincennes, IN.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Carie, a grand-daughter, Jenna Carie, a great grand-daughter, Henley Neukam, his parents, August Sr and Mary Louise Carie, 8 brothers, Bernard Carie, Raphael Carie, Francis “Bud” Carie, Orville Carie, Louis Carie, August Carie Jr., Donnie Carie and Richard L. Carie in infancy.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst and Deacon Earl Ruppel officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Beulah in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Christian Education Foundation. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Carie family during their time of loss.
