Helen L. Joyce, 87, of Vincennes, IN, passed away at her home January 3, 2025; her family was at her bedside. Helen was born in Freelandville, IN the daughter of Victor and Alberta L. McCoy Krueger. She was a graduate of Monroe City H.S. and Vincennes University majoring in Business. She worked various business interests and began a career with American National/Regions Bank in human resources/payroll departments where she retired. On September 5, 1959 she married Larry “Bear” Joyce and they made their life together for nearly 39 years until his death in 1998. Helen was a member of St. John Catholic/St Francis Xavier Parish, K of C Auxiliary. On Wednesday’s she enjoyed played cards with her friends at the K of C. She formerly owned the Denim Shop before starting her career with American National Bank; she was an income tax preparer for many years. She was active in 4-H as a leader, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved being active in her family’s life and her grandchildren, great grandchildren’s activities.
Helen is survived by her children, Mike Joyce of Avon, IN, Paul (Vickie) Joyce of Avon, IN, Debbie Lewis of Vincennes, IN and Joe (Angie) Joyce of Richmond, KY. Her beloved grandchildren, Tara (Byron) Dunnick, Brie (William) Coffman, Kyle (Nicole) Joyce, Melissa (Casey) McFall, Jessica (Sam) Whipkey, Matthew Lewis, Kellie (Brett) Cargal, Leslie (Cody) Phipps, Danielle Joyce, Chelsea (Jeff) DeWitt and Steven (Mary) Joyce. Her great grandchildren, Harper Lang, Olivia Lang, Henry Coffman, Crew Coffman, Alyssa Payne, Skeet Dunnick, Jack Joyce, Gwen McFall, Lorelei McFall, Jada Whipkey, Christian Whipkey, Addison Cargal, Owen Cargal, Liam Lewis, Emma Lewis, Charlotte DeWitt and Everett DeWitt. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Bill Krueger of Seymour, IN, David Krueger of Waldorf, MD, Gordon Krueger of Austin, TX, Shirley Whitaker of Austin TX, Donna Laycock of Harrisburg, IL and Vickie Richardson of Rosedale, IN.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Larry “Bear” Joyce, her parents, Victor and Alberta Krueger, a brother, Jim Krueger and 2 sisters, Linda Slater and Diane Krider.
Private funeral services will be conducted at St. John Catholic Church with burial next to her husband in McCoy #2 Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in her memory. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Joyce family during their time of loss.
