Jackie "Jack" Cardinal, 92, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday January 22, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Jack was born March 24, 1932 in Vincennes one of 11 children born to Lawrence Anthony "Tony" Sr. and Anna Marchino Cardinal. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received the Bronze Star for his heroic actions in a battle at Suri-ri, Korea. He returned home and began working as a bricklayer for local #32 and later worked for 32 years for Vincennes Community School Corp at Vigo school in the maintaince department. He married Daisy Mae Prince and she preceded him in death in 1994. He married his second wife, Mary Armstrong Montgomery and she preceded him in death in 2009. Jack held memberships in the American Legion, Past Commander of the VFW. He was a member of the Reel Avenue Christian Church/ Franklin Heights Christian Church. He enjoyed being with his family and living life for all it is worth.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Downey of Vincennes, IN, Marcia Tippet of Zepher Hills, FL and Jack Cardinal Jr. His grandchildren, Jordon Downey, Richie Downey, Tracy Crowley, Jason Richardville, Dawn Richardville, Shaun McCoy, 3 great grandchildren and 5great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ed Cardinal of Casper, WY and Tony (Lou Ann) Cardinal of Lake Placid, FL.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Mae Prince Cardinal, his second wife, Mary Montgomery, a son Keith Cardinal, his parents, Tony Sr and Anna Cardinal, his brothers and sisters, Bill Cardinal, Woodie Cardinal Sr., John Cardinal, Bruce Cardinal, Richard Cardinal, Dorothy Teising, Jane Trent, and Maxine Weary.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick with Pastor Ryan Lowery officiating. He will be laid to rest with military gravesite honors presented by the All Weather Firing Squad next to his first wife, Daisy Mae Cardinal in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors Project.
