Obituary for James Edwin �Ed� Ertel James Edwin �Ed� Ertel, 85, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Bridgepointe Health Campus. He was born July 25, 1931 in Vincennes the son of Edward and Lillie Hamilton Ertel. He was a 1949 graduate of Lincoln High School where he excelled at basketball. He was the top high school prospect and was recruited by several top colleges. He graduated from Vincennes University, received his bachelors degree from Indiana University and attained his masters degree from Indiana State University. He formerly worked with his parents in the Ertel Shoe Store. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and he served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War in the Field Artillery. He was a true gentleman to everyone he met. He is survived by a close friend since high school, Robert �Gus� Stevens of Vincennes, IN and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Ertel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday September 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 PM Sunday September 18, 2016 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to The Lincoln High School Athletic Fund.
