Obituary for James R. "Jim" Sievers
James R. "Jim" Sievers, 85, of Vincennes, IN, passed away Sunday October 10, 2021 at his residence with his family at his bedside. Jim was born June 21, 1936 in Vincennes the son of Louis Victor and Catherine E. Bouchie Sievers. When he was 15 years old he joined his father at the Louis Sievers Slaughter House and opened a meat shop with his dad’s approval. He married Doris G. Gremore on October 6, 1955 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage together. After the death of his father, he moved the slaughter house to outer main street road with the help of his wife. Later they were joined by their three son’s and built a state of the art custom butchering and processing operation. They specialized in custom butchering and retail meat sales. He was a street smart businessman who was devoted to always taking care of his wife and family. His ability to spend time making his customers and friends laugh with his telling stories was a gift he loved to share. Taking care of his customers and not forgetting those who stood beside him during the rough years was uppermost in his decisions he made in life. He attended St. Vincent Catholic Church and the Old Cathedral Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris G. Sievers, their children, James L. Sievers and his wife Diane of Vincennes, IN, Joyce Ann Sievers Lindsey of Vincennes, IN, Rick D. Sievers, and his wife Xinia of Vincennes, IN, Sheila Sievers Beard, and her husband Billy of Vincennes, IN and Stephen R. Sievers of Vincennes, IN. Grandchildren, Clarissa Sievers, Diana Norton (Brandon), Aaron Doades(Carmen), Audra Doades Garnett (Jarrett), Brandt Doades, Hunter James Sievers, Stephen R. Sievers Jr., Great grandchildren, Chloe Songer, Ari Lewis Garnett, Mirabelle Garnett, Antonio Doades and Lucia Doades. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Pamela Sievers, a son in law, Kenneth Lindsey, his parents, Louis and Catherine Sievers, his 4 brothers, Chris Sievers, Bernard Sievers, Syrill Sievers and a brother in infancy Richard Victor Sievers and his 3 sisters, Mildred Yochum, Jenevie Brummett and Dorothy L. Sievers.
A Celebration of his Life by his family will be held privately. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Jim’s family during their time of loss. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the donor’s charity of choice.
