Obituary for James S. �Sam� Murphy James S. �Sam� Murphy, 88, of Vincennes passed away Saturday October 1, 2016 at the Timbers in Jasper, IN. He was born October 28, 1927 in Vincennes the son of Ulysses and Wilhelmina Utterbach Murphy. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and her served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received a degree from Vincennes University and he married Doris Taylor and they made their life together until her death on October 28, 2002. He was active in funeral service with the Gardner Funeral Home, Brockman Funeral Home and for the last 15 years with the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. He formerly was the general manager of the Executive Inn in Paducah, KY and Evansville, IN. He was active in Vincennes Civitan from the start of the club and formerly served as Midwest District Governor. He held memberships in the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and was a kind gentle man. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Berry, and her husband Mark of Vincennes, his grandchildren, Jamie Loftin, Jon Mays, Jordon Mays, Barry �Mac� Morrison, Shannon Marlin, Paula McBride and Jaxon Berry. He was also blessed by 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Nellie McClure of Vincennes and Nancy Sanderfer of Charleston, S.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Murphy, a daughter, Vinnie Morrison Peek, 3 Brothers, Francis �Hank� Murphy, Paul Murphy and Robert Murphy in infancy. 2 Sisters also preceded, Irene Owen and Mary Root. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday October 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Anderson officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Civitan Children�s Center in his memory.
