Obituary for Joan R. Jewel
Joan R. Jewel, 88, formerly of Vincennes, passed away Friday January 26, 2018 at Owen Valley Health Campus. Joan was born October 18, 1929 in Vincennes the daughter of George and Christy Detrow Wetzel. She was a graduate of St Rose Academy and Vincennes University. She worked for decades in the Knox County Court House and retired as Assistant Assessor. She formerly worked as a secretary to Alan Bradfield at Vincennes University and as administrative assistant at Lester Rout & Associates. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, K of C Auxiliary, St Anne Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, American Auxiliary and the Moose Auxiliary. She also served as secretary of the Old Northwest Corp. She married Carl Jewel who preceded her in death.
Joan is survived by her son, Jeff Jewel of Louisville, KY, a son in law, Jeffrey Poling, a step son, Mike Jewel of Evansville, IN, three step grand children, several step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a brother, George Wetzel, and his wife Janice of Vincennes, a sister, Barbara Murphy of Evansville, IN and a sister in law, Judie Jewel St. John of Mattoon, IL.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday January 31, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with a service to be held at 7:00 PM with Fr. David Fleck officiating. Burial will be held privately. Memorial contributions can be made to Vincennes Pet Port or Monroe County Humane Society in her memory.
