Obituary for Joe A. Salter
Joe A. Salter, 68, of Plainville, IN, passed away Thursday April 25, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Evansville, IN. Joe was born September 23, 1950 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Duncan F. and Gertrude J Harrington Salter. Joe was a graduate of North Knox High School and joined the U.S. Air Force serving 20 plus years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He married Leila Miller on November 27, 1971 and they will have been married 48 years in November. Joe was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Bicknell, IN. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a mentor to many children in Washington, IN to help give them a hand in their future.
He is survived by his wife, Lea Salter, their children, Ryan Salter of Lincoln, NE and Tiffany Horton, and her husband Rob of Jasonville, IN. grandchildren, Blake Salter and his fiancée, Melisa, Julia Horton, Savannah Horton, Leo Horton and Kenny Helderman. His great grandchildren, Luca Horton and Grayson Horton. He is also survived by two sisters, Susie Bement, and her husband Wayne and Cheryl Salter both of Bicknell, IN.
He was preceded by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday May 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday May 1, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell, IN. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Salter family during their time of loss.
