Obituary for John A. Gerken
Obituary for John A. Gerken John A. Gerken, 78, of Oaktown, IN, passed away February 3, 2015 at midnight at the Good Samaritan Hospital with the family at his bedside. He was born October 26, 1936 in Knox County the son of Leonard and Frances Catt Gerken. He was a retired farmer having worked at Page Farms. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army and on August 30, 1958 he married Lida Martin and they made their life together for over 56 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and formerly a member of the Oddfellows. He is survived by his wife, Lida Gerken, their children, Connie Mize, and her husband Chuck of Merom, IN, Larry Gerken, and his wife Janet of Findlay, OH and Joy Steimel, and her husband Kenny of Bicknell, IN. His grandchildren, Missy Holmes, Nikki Monroe, Natalie Newnum, Courtney Mize, Tiffany Gerken, Jessica Gerken, Meghan Lafferty, Karla Steimel, Kari Land and Kevin Steimel. 18 Great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his special friends, Donna Alsman and Marc Johnson both of Oaktown also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday February 6, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. David Fleck will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Gravesite Honors presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends fro 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, G.S.H. Hospice or to the donor�s Charity of Choice.
