Obituary for John �Mike� Michael Patrick John �Mike� Michael Patrick, age 78, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Sanford Hospice Centennial House in Sioux Falls. John Michael Patrick was born on June 12, 1934 in Lawrenceville, Illinois to Thomas and Ruby (Downey) Patrick. He received his education in Lawrenceville H.S. graduating in 1953. He then enlisted into the United States Army. Following his time in the service Mike continued his education at Eastern Illinois University. He was united in marriage with Shirley J. Gillum on June 3, 1962 in Lawrenceville, IL. Mike had begun his career in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster and the couple lived in the communities of Freeport, IL, Decatur, IL, and East Moline, IL before making their home in Sioux Falls, SD in 1967. Mike retired in 1997 following 29 years at Crum and Forster Insurance Group and five and a half years with Crawford and Company. Shirley died on April 6, 2010. He was a member at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls and was in Unity Lodge Unit 130 A.F. & A. M. and the El Riad Shrine in Sioux Falls; where he was active in the circus committee and past chairman. He was also a past commander of the El Riad Shrine Foot Patrol. In addition to his Shrine activities he was very involved in Job�s Daughters where he served as a Past Associate Grand Guardian. Mike enjoyed gardening and reading. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed. Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Jennifer Bauman and her husband, James of Sioux Falls; four nieces, Cathy McIntyre of Santa Rosa Beach FL, Patty Smith of Vincennes, IN, Suzie Miller of Vincennes, IN, and Julie Hoalt of Henderson, KY; one nephew Steve Patrick; and sisters-in-law, Opal Westgate of Niceville, FL, Evelyn Millikin and her husband, Chuck of Cheshire, CT, and Marilyn Hayes of Vincennes, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruby Patrick; wife, Shirley; infant son, David Michael Patrick; two brothers, Thomas and Robert Patrick. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 PM. The gravesite service will begin at 10:00 AM CST on Tuesday, August 28 at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Claremont, Illinois. A second Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home in Vincennes, Indiana.
