Obituary for John Richardson Thompson IV
John Richardson Thompson IV, 67, of Oaktown, IN, passed away Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with his family at his side. John was born November 27, 1951 in Vincennes, IN the son of Charles Elwood “Woody” and Betty Lou Keith Thompson. He was a 1970 graduate of North Knox High School and he attained an AS degree in Diesel Mechanics. He married Patricia Diane Stanczak on October 9, 1971 and they made their life together for nearly 48 years until her death on June 25, 2019. He worked for Peabody Coal and John Jones Construction. He was an avid woodworker and loved to make toys for his family.
John is survived by his children, Jamie Thompson and Yvonne Amlett, of Terre Haute, IN, Ryan Thompson and Corinna of Harrison, AR, Janeen Shoffner and Jason of Fishers, IN and Tessa Hutson and Andrew of Paris, IL. His beloved grandchildren, Allyssa Thompson, Kelbie Thompson, Sabrina Thompson, Hallie Thompson, Julie Thompson, Nathan Botello, Michael Platt, Matthew Thompson, Nathaniel Shoffner, Katelynn Shoffner, Alexandra Shoffner, Easton Hutson and Cooper Hutson. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth J. “Libby” Gillespie and Thomas of Kissimmee, FL and a brother, Charles Elwood “Chuck” Thompson II and Karen of Attica, OH.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Patty and his parents.
Funeral services will be celebrated Saturday September 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel with Fr. Simon Natha officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday September 14, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory the National Kidney Foundation.
