Obituary for Joseph T. Funk
Joseph T. Funk, 88, of Vincennes, IN passed away Wednesday April 25, 2018 at his residence. Joe was born July 16, 1929 in Lawrence Co, IL the son of Loy and Frances Crews Funk. He was graduate of the University of Illinois where he received a degree in agriculture. He farmed all of his life and he formerly worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital for over 19 years. He married Patricia Waltz on August 18, 1956 and they made their life together for over 50 years until her death on November 25, 2006. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, DAV, the Elks, the Eagles, and was a Forth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Faithful Navigator . He also served his country in the Army during the Korean War having been awarded 2 Purple Hearts for wounds he received.
Joe is survived by his children Angela Whitlow of Vincennes, and Joseph K. Funk of Dalton GA. His Grandson Aaron J. Cardinal. His brother Gene Funk of Lawrenceville IL.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents Loy and Frances Funk, a brother Bill Funk, his sisters Rosadell Singleton, Virginia Allin, Ethel Hershburger, Marian Bunting and Ann Elliot.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday April 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Patricia in the St. John Cemetery in Washington, IN. Gravesite military honors will be presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday April 29, 2018 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
