Obituary for Lawrence G. �Larry� Schmidt Lawrence G. �Larry� Schmidt, 87, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday November 27, 2013 at 3:15 AM with his family at his bedside. He was born September 25, 1926 in Vincennes the son of Frank J. & Josephine C. Duesterberg Schmidt. He was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School, he married Ruth Disser on July 4, 1953, and they made their life together for over 60 years. He was a lifelong grocer having owned and operated Schmidt�s Key Markets at 13th & Nicholas & 5th & Busseron in Vincennes and was a partner in Key Markets in Princeton & Evansville. Schmidt�s Market was started by his grandfather and was kept in the family for over 78 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John Catholic Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Harmony Society. He served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Retail Grocers Assn., and was active in the St. John Parish Picnic where he and Alois Yochum worked together in the fricassee stand and he and his wife, Ruth were the dressing makers for the dinners. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Schmidt, his sisters and brother in law, Joan Janes, and her husband Ed of Houston, TX and Rosemary McCarty of Vincennes. His nephews and niece, John McCarty, Mike McCarty, Kathy Warfield, Ed Janes and Larry Janes. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in law, Jack McCarty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday December 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 pm Sunday December 1, 2013 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Vincent DePaul or St. John Catholic Church.
