Larry Joe McCoy, 82, of Vincennes, passed away Wednesday August 28, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis; IN. Larry was born January 9, 1942 in Monroe City, IN (on the kitchen table), the son of Chester Leroy and Marie Shaner McCoy. He was a 1960 graduate of Lincoln High School and began his career as a coalminer/ heavy equipment mechanic. He enjoyed being a drag racing driver/mechanic, a gunsmith, having made black powder long rifles and working on various firearms restoration for several military museums. After retirement, he stayed active being a volunteer at George Rogers Clark Memorial, where he received the National Hartzog Award for being an outstanding volunteer. He was a past member of Vincennes Rendezvous Committee, the Moose Son’s of the American Revolution and Buck Creek Muzzle Loaders Club. He married Sharon Vantlin who preceded him in death in 2004. On May 14, 2006, he married Mary Ann Reed and they made their life together for the last 18 years.
Larry Jo is survived by his wife, Mary Ann McCoy, children, Larry Joe (Maria) McCoy Jr. of Georgetown, KY, Norman L. (Lori) McCoy of Hutsonville, IL, Charles W. (Leanna) McCoy of Vincennes, IN, Christopher F. McCoy of Vincennes, IN, Thomas (Debra) Harden of Merom, IN, Kenneth Harden of Linton, IN, Loretta (Brian) Cox of Linton, IN and Mary Lou (Anthony) Vela of Merom, IN. He is also survived by 22 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild (and expecting 2 more). A sister in law, Beverly McCoy also survives. He will be also missed by his many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Sharon McCoy, a grandson, C.J. McCoy, his parents and a brother, Jack McCoy.
Funeral Services will be celebrated on Tuesday September 3, 2024 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest next to his 1st wife, Sharon McCoy in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday September 2, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Tuesday. Memorial contribution can be made to the National Society Son’s of the American Revolution Scholarship Fund, 809 West Main St. Louisville, KY 40202 in his memory.
