Obituary for Loy E. “Gene” Funk
Loy E. “Gene” Funk, 87, of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at his residence with his family at his bedside. Gene was born July 1, 1932 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Loy and Frances E. Crews Funk. He was a graduate of Lawrenceville H. S. and served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He married Aenita R. Bright and they made their life together for 48 years until her death on April 24, 2003. Gene loved being a farmer all of his life and enjoyed just talking to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed giving people a hard time and loved getting back in return. He was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion 132, VFW 2244 and the Elks 1208 in Lawrenceville, IL. He was involved in various activities in Lawrence County and Vincennes communities.
Gene is survived by his children, William “Bill” Funk, and his wife Kyla of Lawrenceville, Jamie Funk, and his wife Deedra of Lawrenceville and Norma J. “Jeannie” Aldrich, and her husband Kelly of Sumner, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who never knew what he would do next, Kylie Hopp, Alexis Funk Garcia, Rhett Funk, Kacey Strange, Cory Funk, Tyler Funk, Jenna Aldrich and Kody Aldrich. He was also blessed by his 15 great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Aenita R. Funk, his parents, 2 brothers, Bill Funk and Joseph T. Funk and his 5 sisters, Rosadell Singleton, Virginia Allin, Ethel Hershburger, Marian Bunting and Ann Elliot.
Funeral services will be celebrated Monday March 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM EDT at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Pastor April Dailey officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Aenita in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday March 15, 2020 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00 PM EDT. Memorial Contributions can be made in his memory to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Donor’s Charity of Choice.
