Madge M. Brocksmith, 87, of Vincennes, IN, passed away Tuesday January 7, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Madge was born December 15, 1937 in Knox County the daughter of Lester T. and Marceline Mayall Hinkle. After graduation from high school, Madge began her work career having worked in bookkeeping for Vincennes University, the Executive Inn and I & S McDaniel Trucking. Later she worked as a receptionist for Children, Family Services, and various departments at Good Samaritan Hospital. She especially enjoyed her time working for Dr. Lao’s office. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church/ St. Francis Xavier. She married Jim Brocksmith who preceded her in death on July 1, 2001. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Madge was an avid fan and follower of high school and college basketball. She spent countless hours rooting for her Purdue Boilermakers.
Madge is survived by her children, Michael (Tammy) Klein of Vincennes, IN, Patricia (Dennis) Carnahan of Wheatland, IN and Mark A. Klein of Bicknell, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Zeb (Amber) Klein, Gretchen (Alan) Lee, John (Ashley) Carnahan, Ben (Kiersten) Carnahan and 7 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mary (Donald) Bratton of Freelandville, IN and Lynn (William J) Carie of Wheatland, IN also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Brocksmith, a grandson Philip Carnahan, her parents, Lester and Marceline Hinkle and a brother, Ritchie Hinkle.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the donor’s charity of choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Madge’s family during their time of loss.
