Obituary for Margaret F. Johnson
Margaret F. Johnson, 96, formerly of Vincennes, passed away Thursday evening at the Springhill Villages in Terre Haute, IN. She was born November 17, 1920 in Little Falls, MN the daughter of Albert and Maria Wurzer MacGregor. She received her Masters degree in Education and was a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital in nursing and worked as a special education teacher with the Vincennes Community School Corporation. She was a member of the St. John Catholic Church, the Quilter’s Club of St. John, Sewing Guild, Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group at Central Church of Christ, Indiana State Teachers Assn and the National Education Assn. She married Carl L. “Red” Johnson on December 8, 1942 and they made their life together for 57 years until his death on January 20, 2000.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Thurow, and her husband Russell of Rosedale, IN, Carl M. Johnson M.D., and his wife Connie of Paducah, KY and Michael C. Johnson of Berkley, CA. Her grandchildren, Mark Russell Thurow, Dylan MacGregor Johnson, and his wife Emily Ann, Elizabeth Teplitzky, and her husband Adam, Dane Alexander Johnson, Katie Rose Johnson, Margaret Park Johnson and Alexander Sanford Johnson. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Jean Davis, a special friend, Kevin Abel, Virgil and Kathy Lane and their children, Deb Brugman and Virginia Kuhn and their extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday May 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday May 14, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Habitat for Humanity.
