Obituary for Maria Teresa Tresslar
Obituary for Maria Teresa Tresslar Maria Teresa Teeter Tresslar died peacefully at her home in Vincennes on March 16th with her devoted husband of 69 years, Robert Rinker Bob Tresslar, by her side. She was born in New York City to Maria Elisa and Col. Jose Fernando Avalos. She received her primary and secondary education in Manhattan and was an honors graduate of Hunter College. Teeter became a Hoosier transplant at the end of WWII when she came home to Bicknell with her fighter pilot husband. She was an avid and accomplished golfer, but above all else, she devoted her life to her family, friends and Catholic faith. As the daughter of a Mexican diplomat, she never abandoned her cultural heritage. She instilled a sense of pride and appreciation of their bicultural background to her children. She met her future husband by chance in a summer school class at the University of Mexico in 1940. Although being raised almost exclusively in New York; she loved living in Indiana and Knox County for almost 70 years. She was the consummate host to 4 generations of the Tresslar family, their spouses, relatives and friends at homes in Bicknell and Vincennes. Her legacy is one of grace and elegance, but above all uncompromising love and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Tresslar and her nine children, Robert Tresslar and his wife Nancy, of Denver, CO, Christopher Tresslar and his wife Nancy, of Bloomington, IN, Timothy Tresslar and his wife Young Ae, of Bloomington, IN, Stephen Tresslar and his wife Teresa, of Bloomington, IN, Cristina Tresslar of Vincennes, IN, Mark Tresslar and his wife MarvaLee, of Vincennes, IN, Peter Tresslar and his wife Linda, of Chicago, IL, John Tresslar and his wife Mary, of St. Louis, MO, Michael Tresslar and his wife Amy, of Evansville, IN, her twenty grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Grace, Chris, Nick, Sara, Rob, Tom, Mike, Dan, Ellie, Maggie, Charlotte, Catie, Patrick, Kathleen, David, Tim, Matt, Jake,; her nine great-grandchildren, Derrick, Danielle, Desiree, Stephen, Courtney, Christina, Dominic, Reed and Julia. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Jose Joe Avalos of Miami, FL and Jorge George Avalos of Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday March 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. David Fleck officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Christian Education Foundation of Vincennes or the Vincennes YMCA.
