Mary Catherine Pourchot McCord passed away November 23, 2023 in Vincennes, Indiana at the age of 91. Mary was born on October 21, 1932 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Walter Pourchot and Lora Pierson Pourchot. While working at Pat's Drive-In, she met Melvin McCord, whom she married on November 5, 1949 at Real Avenue Christian Church in Vincennes, Indiana. Together they welcomed three children, Karen, Lloyd, and David. Her family grew to include 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Throughout Mary's life, she held various jobs, including a position at Harold's, P. N. Hirsch, and Harrison Grade School. She was a homemaker who later opened her own bronzing business, Forget-Me-Not Bronzing, and later, Forget-Me-Not Christian Book Store. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority.
Mary was passionate about God, family and friends. She was an active member of Franklin Heights Christian Church, from leading Bible studies to serving as a Sunday School teacher. Mary could often be found at the local McDonald's catching up with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee, or going to Paradise Lake camping and fishing with family and friends. Mary is remembered as a loving soul, with zest for life, love, and competitive games, playing cards, she would say, "There's no family in cards."
GOD definitely gained another angel.
Mary is survived by her children Karen (Brian) Burch, Lloyd (Maureen) McCord, and David (Joan) McCord, along with grandchildren Jason (Aimee) Westfall, Michael (Ashley) Westfall, Malia (Nick) Leach, Jacob (Lindsay) McCord, Hannah McCord, Caleb (Malika) McCord, Kaylee (Moses) Jones, Kamron (Gabrielle) Ramsier, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Melvin McCord, her parents, brothers Bo Pourchot and Bob Pourchot, sister Dorothy Baker, and grandson Ken McCord.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 29, 2023 with Rod Carie officiating at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Melvin in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home and Wednesday morning from 8:00 AM until the time of services.
