Obituary for Max B. Steimel
Max B. Steimel, 94 years and 363 days old, passed away Sunday April 21, 2019 at 11:50 PM CST at the home of his granddaughter in Evansville, IN. Max was born April 23, 1924 in Bicknell, IN the son of John E. and Esther R. Harding Steimel. Max was a graduate of Lincoln High School and he served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the European and Pacific theaters aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Edison DD439. He received 5 Battle Stars for his service and remained a true Navy man. After the War, he joined his father at Steimel’s Barber Shop until his retirement at the age of 90. He was a member of the American Legion where he served for many years as Sergeant at Arms. He was also a member of VFW and Moose Lodge of Washington, IN. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, crossword puzzles, Military History and any time spent with loved ones. He was invited to join his Fellow veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He married Armentha M. Theriac and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son, S. Jay Steimel, and his wife Jamie of Decker, IN, his grandchildren, Tara L. Roe and her husband Chris, Leaha Anthis and her husband Jason, Bryan Steimel, Michael Steimel and Heather Steimel. His great grandchildren, Lauryn Roe, Max Roe, Cadie Anthis, Aubrey Anthis, Brylee Anthis, Emmy Steimel, Owyn Willis, Layton Steimel and Lyric Fowler. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jean Irr of Newport Richey, FL and his longtime companion, Virginia Robinson of Vincennes, IN.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Ron Barnes officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Tower I Mausoleum. Military gravesite honors will be given by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 25, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
