Obituary for Melvin Maurice McCord Melvin Maurice McCord, 84, of Vincennes passed away Monday December 19, 2011 at 7:50 PM with his family at his bedside. He was born September 6, 1927 in Vincennes the son of Melvin O & Frieda Ottensmeyer McCord. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman. On November 5, 1949, he married Mary C. Pourchot and the made their life together for over 62 years. He was the appliance manager at the Saiter-Morgan Company, an insurance agent with the Equitable Insurance Co, he was a Christian counselor, served as a chaplain at Crestview Nursing Center, he served as chaplain with Home Health Care, was a minister at Palestine Christian Church, served as an Elder at Franklin Heights Christian Church and he lived his Christian faith in his actions everyday. He served on the Park & Recreation Board, the Library Board when the new library was built and was a member of Civitan for many years and several civic endeavors. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary C. McCord, their children, Karen Burch, and her husband Brian of Vincennes, Melvin Lloyd McCord, and his wife Maureen of Chamblee, GA and David Wayne McCord, and his wife Joan of Buford, GA. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Jason Westfall, Michael Westfall, Malia McCord, Hannah McCord, Ken McCord, Jacob McCord and Caleb McCord. 3 great grandchildren, Reece Westfall, Lainey Westfall and Savanah Westfall. His parents and a sister, Roberta Strole, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be celebrated Friday December 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Ron Barnes and Pastor Wayne Unger officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Memorial Park Cemetery with military gravesite honors provided by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the GSH Cancer Center or the New Willow Manor Alzheimer Unit Activities Department.
