Obituary for Nellie Marie McRae
Nellie Marie McRae, 93, formerly of Monroe City, IN, passed away Sunday September 24, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Forest, VA. She was born April 22, 1924 in Decker, Indiana the daughter of Tom and Rose Catt Butler. She was the last surviving member of nine children. She was a graduate of Decker High School and graduated beauty school and operated her own beauty salon in her home in Monroe City. She married Jessie McRae Jr. on April 22, 1943 and they made their life together for 68 years until his death on July 2, 2011. She was a former member of the Old Cathedral, and she enjoyed going to Kentucky Lake and spending time with her family. She and Jesse formerly lived in Benton, KY and Winter Haven, FL. She was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Stuckey, and her husband, Ken of Forest, VA, a son, Mike McRae, and his wife Nancy of Manchester, TN. Her grandchildren, Julie Stuckey, Chris Stuckey and his wife Jenny, Sarah Burton and her husband Jimmy and Lisa McKenzie, and her great grandchildren, Olivia Stuckey, Joel Stuckey, Anna Burton, Abigail Burton, Ashleigh McKenzie and David McKenzie. A Sister in Law, Ruth McRae of Kokomo, IN and several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Rose Catt Butler, her 8 brothers and sisters, Flossie Steimel, John Martin Butler, Delie Blance Butler, Herschel Butler, Velma Grigsby Hess, Icel Butler, Lucille Froeschke and Marlin Butler.
Funeral Services will be celebrated Saturday September 30, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Fr. David Fleck officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Jesse in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Donor‘s Charity of Choice.
