Obituary for Noble Eugene Wright
Noble Eugene Wright passed from this life on March 8, 2018, at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 28 days. Noble was born on August 11, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to John Preston and Georgie (Wilkes) Wright. He was the third of four children. Noble grew up in Crossville, Tennessee, graduated from Crossville High School, where he boxed, played football, learned to lay brick, and studied (a little). He worked as a bricklayer for the next 20 years. On July 29, 1950, he was joined in marriage to Miss Ida Geraldine Fortner of Dyersburg, Tennessee in Hernando, Mississippi by the Justice of the Peace. To this union were born five children. They celebrated 66 years of marriage until Geraldine’s passing in 2017. Noble and Geraldine traveled and lived where they could get work. They lived in Tennessee, Ohio, and Missouri, before settling in Indiana near Gary.

Noble obeyed the gospel in baptism in 1955. He was baptized by Bro. Conner Lundy in a lake near Crossville. In 1959, he was serving as a deacon in the East Gary Christian Church, when he and Geraldine left to help start the Portage Christian Church. They were charter members and he was one of their first elders. In 1966, Noble became convinced of the Lord’s desire for him to preach the gospel. He took his wife and five children to go Missouri to start college and to work as a full time preacher. He graduated from Central Christian College of the Bible in 1971. Noble preached for 4 Christian Churches in Missouri: Atlanta Christian Church, Richland Christian Church, Auxvasse Christian Church (which he started), and Belle Christian Church.

As a matter of conviction, Noble began serving with the Churches of Christ in 1976. He then served the Petersburg Church of Christ – Petersburg, Indiana. Princeton Church of Christ – Princeton, Indiana, Providence Church of Christ – Providence, Kentucky and the Homesteads Church of Christ – Crossville, Tennessee. Noble not only served as a gospel preacher, but also as an elder in the Portage Christian Church – Portage, Indiana, Princeton Church of Christ – Princeton, Indiana, and the Homesteads Church of Christ – Crossville, Tennessee. He served as a faculty member of the Tri-State School of Biblical Studies for a number of years. He even authored a book on elders and deacons, which has been used as a textbook in a number of churches.

A man of many interests, Noble was an accomplished builder, building their dream home from native lumber in Crossville, Tennessee. He laid the blocks, poured the concrete, did the framing, laid the brick, wired, plumbed, and finished the house in a beautiful way. He was an accomplished woodworker. He enjoyed planting and working his big vegetable gardens. He loved to hunt, target shoot, gunsmith, collect guns, collect knives, and do his own reloading. He was also an avid reader with an extensive private library. In 2013 Noble and Geraldine moved back to Dyersburg, and in 2015, they came to Vincennes where they lived out the rest of their lives.

He was a faithful member of Central Church of Christ in Vincennes and a regular participant in Sojourners seniors’ ministry.

He is survived by: Two sons; Norman Wright and his wife Pamela of Moberly, Missouri, Roger Wright and his wife Mary of Vincennes, Indiana. Three daughters: Vivian Gamblian and her husband Stanley of Allen,Texas, Betsye Harris of Paragould, Arkansas and Rachel Craighton and her husband Gordon of Shiloh, Georgia. 18 grandchildren – – 29 great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, as well as many friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Geraldine Wright, His parents, John and Georgie Wright and 3 sisters:, Alice Edna Wood, Mable Delores Snodgrass and Priscilla Nell Fields.

Funeral services will be celebrated Monday March 12, 2018 at 9:00 AM with Scott Wiley officiating at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home.
