Norma M. (Neufelder) Wild, 86, of Vincennes, passed away Thursday April 24, 2025 at 6:40 AM at Aperion Care. Norma was born July 23, 1938 in Haubstadt, IN the daughter of Lawrence O. and Pauline (Hisker) Neufelder, the 8th of 12 children. Norma was a 1956 graduate of Haubstadt High School and she married her high school sweetheart on February 1, 1958, Samuel "Sam" Wild and they made their life together for over 45 years until his death in 2003. She was an avid basketball fan, and enjoyed watching her children playing for Rivet High School, both girls and boys, Indiana Hoosiers, and the Pacers. Her love of sports included baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals and any team that involved her family. She was loyal to her Catholic faith, being a 50+ year member of St. Francis Xavier/Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the St. Francis Xavier Alter Society, working the Church picnics, helping organize bereavement meals, laundering the altar vestments for the servers, was a eucharistic minister, taking communion to the sick and shut ins, a lector, singing at funerals and received the Brute Award for the devotion to her faith. She recited the rosary and enjoyed anyone who prayed with her. She loved working in the yard, mowing the grass, and growing all kinds of flowers, plants and trees. She enjoyed, taking pictures of her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and just about anything and anyone who would pose for her. Over the years, she worked at JCPenney as a seamstress, Walmart, Flaget Elementary School, Rivet High School, and St.Vincent DePaul.
She is survived by her children, Angela “Angie” (John) Sievers of Vincennes, Christine “Chris” (Mike) Morris of Vincennes, Laura (Jim) Blagrave of Noblesville, IN, Keith (Jayna) Wild of Washington, IN and Jeremy (Caren) Wild of Vincennes. Her grandchildren, Sean Morris, Karrie (Dustin) Veteto, Adam (Sarah) Morris, Corey (Michelle) Sievers, Melissa Morris, Brandon (Willow) Blagrave, Alex Sievers, Evan Sievers, Hannah Wild, Sarah (Jarrod) Purdue, Ann (Adam) Graber and Renae Wild. Her 16 great grandchildren, Jayden Morris, Sophiea Morris, Charlie Sievers, Avery Veteto, Molly Sievers, Zooey Sievers, Jackson Pohl, Quinn Sievers, Leo Blagrave, Axel Sievers, Adelyn Veteto, Elsie Morris, Nora Blagrave, Eleanor Pohl, Oliver Sievers and Griffin Graber. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Martha “Matt” Salas of Globe, AZ, Elizabeth “Betty” Wade of Evansville, IN, Anne (Chad) Williams of Cynthiana, IN, Lawrence “Larry” Neufelder of Evansville and Barbara Elpers of Evansville, IN. She will be missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Wild, her parents, Lawrence O. and Pauline Neufelder, 5 brothers Harold Neufelder, Monsignor Jerome Neufelder, Gerald Neufelder, Eugene “Gene” Neufelder and Charles Neufelder (in infancy), and 1sister Dorothy Youngson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Vincennes on Friday May 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM EDT, with Fr. Tony Ernst and Fr. Caleb Scherzinger officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Sam in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday May 1, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM EDT and prior to the procession leaving for the church on Friday at 10:30 AM EDT. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Aperion Activities Department or St. Francis Xavier Altar Society.
