Obituary for Patricia A. "Pat" Becher


Patricia A. "Pat" (Laakman) Becher 89, formerly of Vincennes, passed away September 27, 2022 in Alpharetta, GA with her family at her bedside. Pat was born February 28, 1933 in Lawrence County, IL near Westport, the daughter of Royal and Isabelle Reynolds Laakman. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and on September 27, 1958, she married William "Bill" Becher and they made their life together for nearly 63 years until his death. She waited until their anniversary to be walked into her heavenly reward with Bill. Pat worked as a medical receptionist for Doctors’ Cantwell, Ewing and Vonderleith. She retired from the Women and Infant Children program as a nutrition specialist for the State of Indiana. She was a member of the Old Cathedral, Delta Theta Tau and the Red Hat Society. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.


Pat is survived by her children, Joyce McDowell, and her husband Mark of Veedersburg, IN, Elaine Decker, and her husband Eric of Milton, GA. and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Becher of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blain McDowell and his wife Casey, Aaron McDowell and his wife Lindsey, Cole Becher, Hallee Becher, Jenna Decker Messier, and her husband Michael and Bailee Decker, as well as her great-granddaughters, Paige McDowell, Brooke McDowell and Thea McDowell. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Althea Laakman of Vincennes, IN, Germaine Graman of Vincennes, IN, Judy Doyle (Jerry) of Vincennes, IN and Nancy Lasher (David) of Fulda, IN. She will be missed by several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her only son Mark Becher, her parents, brothers, Royal Jr., Henry, William, Robert, Farris and James Laakman, her sisters, Carrie Hasler, Mary Alice Laakman and Jane Thompson.


Memorial Services will be celebrated on Saturday October 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Duesterberg- Fredrick Funeral Home with Father Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of service at Duesterberg- Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Vincent DePaul or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society@lls.org.
