Obituary for Phylis "Sue" Schaefer
Phylis "Sue" Schaefer of Bicknell, IN. passed December 9, 2020 at her residence. She was born February 15, 1939 in Washington, IN the daughter of Jess and Edith Ashby Brumett. Sue married Robert A. "Bob" Schaefer and they made their life together for 47 years until his death in December of 2008. Together they were proud to be farmers operating A&R Schaefer Farms and felt taking care of the farmland was a way to honor God. Sue and Bob were committed in helping and returning their gifts to the various philanthropic endeavors among them the Smile Train that benefits children. Many of their endeavors were never completed with expectations of acknowledgment, their belief was giving from the heart not the accolades. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Bicknell, IN, D A R, and active in her class reunions.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Michelle Schaefer, and her husband Michael Lopez of Prattville, AL, Sheryl Schaefer-Jones, and her husband John C. Jones of Vincennes, IN and Rebecca Schaefer of Indianapolis, IN. She was blessed with his grandchildren, Schaefer Marie Jones, Robert Avery Jones, Scarlett Swindle and Keaton Schaefer. She is also survived by a brother Gerald “Cork” Brumett of French Lick, IN.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Robert A. “Bob” Schaefer, her parents, Jess and Edith Brumett, her brothers and sisters, Rex Brumett, Bill Brumett, Morris Brumett, Margie Paterson and Delma Storey.
Funeral services to celebrate her life will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday December 14, 2020 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel, Bicknell, IN with Ron Barnes officiating. Sue will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Salem Church Cemetery in Westphalia, IN. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the First Christian Church, Bicknell or the Smile Train. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Schaefer Family during their time of loss.
